After Medical School

Brown educates compassionate, humanistic physicians, and today, its graduates are advancing innovative and socially-conscious medical education, research, and clinical care in communities all over the world.

For the majority of our medical students, the culmination of their four years of medical school is residency placement in some of the most competitive programs in the country—in every medical specialty, from anesthesiology to urology.

A few graduates follow different, nonclinical paths: as researchers, start-up executives, inventors, even writers. No matter what career path they choose, graduates of The Warren Alpert Medical School use their MDs to follow their passions.

Match Day

At Commencement you take the Physician’s Oath and become a doctor. But the first day of the rest of your life is two months earlier: Match Day.

Families, friends, faculty, and staff gather round as you tear open your red envelope to reveal the next step in your professional life. It’s a day of celebration—and the culmination of four years of preparation to make your residency program match a success.
